Pietra Dura Bird Box I have finally finished my latest Pietra Dura (have decided to spell it with the 'a' ending, although Pietre Dure is also correct) box, and kept with the bird theme. Full details and photos are on the website under Pietra Dura Polymer Clay, on the Polymer Clay listing. Any comments would be appreciated!

Hi All, hope you are having a good new year so far. Thought I ought to add this to my blog, although it is already on face book and Flickr. In November last year at the British Polymer Clay Guild's Anniversary Party/AGM, the fantastic polymer clay artist Sue Heaser gave us all a demonstration on the Pietre Dure style of polymer clay art. This involves inlaying multiple pieces of coloured/patterned clay into a background of clay to build up a picture. I have been desperate to have a go ever since and finally managed to find the time. It took about 24 hours to do, and is on a wooden lid box, and I was more than a little devastated when the box cracked in the oven and my piece of work with it. However I have patched up the cracks, and although I may have to keep it as a piece of wall art rather than a useful box, I am still quite pleased with it. I am now working on a bigger project, having made the box from Polymer Clay as well, and am keeping my fingers crossed that it gets through the oven okay during the multiple baking's I am doing. Will post details if it comes out okay, but may take a couple of weeks more to finish!! Do check out Sue's website for examples of her work www.sueheaser.com Encased cane Necklace and Earrings 2 Am off to the NEC on Friday to demonstrate for the British Polymer Clay Guild at the big Create and Craft show. Will be wearing my new necklace design to hopefully get some feedback from people, and to test it out to make sure it hangs properly etc. It's always great to come up with a new design, but the testing needs to be thorough to make sure it will stand up to normal usage, I normally wear a piece for at least full week taking it where ever I go to check that it can stand up to normal wear and tear. If you see me at the show please come and say hello! (I'll be there Sunday too.) I am very pleased to announce that as of two weeks ago Gallery 54 , Ross-on-Wye are now stocking some of my jewellery. If you follow the link to their website you will see the stunning collection of paintings they have as well as unique, original and unusual jewellery. Thank you to Sue Williams for asking me to be part of her wonderful gallery. Also keep a look out for some new necklaces I have been working on, pictures to follow soon. KSL-01-SB Well how excited am I ? Not only did I finally come up with a name for the collection - Kal Stone Leaves - but it is advertised in the Beautifully Bespoke section at the back of October's Vogue magazine. I have been in a mad rush to get everything ready in time but am pleased to say that 50 necklaces are now on The Bead Scene Studio website ready to buy, with 24 others available to do as commissions, and one already having been donated to a charity auction. Would love to know what people think of them - any comments please? This is the first time I have used Sterling Silver findings and Swarovski Crystals in my work, and although it adds tremendously to the cost of the piece, I think the final results were worth it. Just added a couple more berry necklaces, it takes ages to bead up all that fringing on the necklace ones. Still I think it is worth it to get the fuller look, but also feel the plainer 'circlets' have a certain elegance in their simplicity too. Not sure which I like best. What do you think?
Hi All, Well I think after many mishaps the website may actually now be on-line, well I can see it at least!! Having never done a blog before I am a little unsure what to write, but will no doubt get the hang of it as I go along. I would love some feedback on the website so far, there are still bits I am working on, but as those of you who know me know, I am limited to the amount of time I can spend at the computer, so please bear with me while I get all the information loaded. Let me know what you think. 06/22/2012 Well, I have nearly finished the website details, just a few extra bits to do, but I think there is enough now to give people the general idea. Nearly had a tutorial to put on, then found my video camera wouldn't download properly to the hard disk!! Will have to do it again using a different camera..... when I get a chance. Still working on the Autumn Collections, but am conscious that time is closing in, has so much of the year already gone? |
